March Break Adventures and Highlights

March Break at Wild Fauna brought a fresh wave of excitement and discovery for children and educators alike. The week was packed with outdoor activities, hands-on learning, and moments that connected everyone deeply with nature as we navigated our new space. This blog shares a a little preview of what happened during those memorable days, highlighting key experiences and including a gallery of pictures that capture the spirit of the break.

Immersive Outdoor Learning

One of the main focuses during March Break was guiding the children to learn through play by setting their own boundaries, using their imagination and feeling brave to be a space that accepts them for who they are. Some of the activities that they did during the week were:

  • Building our space

Since it is the first time we have used our new space, we looked to the children to help us build signs, expand on our mud kitchen, and gather a stash of wood for a fire. They took the challenge very seriously and worked hard everyday.

  • Explored everywhere

We found beautiful a beautiful creek with an area to sit and listen to the sounds of the birds and learn about the water. We made paths to meeting places, expanded on the mud kitchen and even found the best trees to climb.

  • Tracking Wildlife

Educators guided the children in identifying animal tracks and signs. They learned how to recognize footprints in the snow and about the types of animals that surround them.

  • Tree Identification

It was maple syrup season in the forest and we wanted to see how many maple trees there were on the property so we brought out our resources to teach the children that books and guides are also great ways to learn from. They were able to identify and mark all the types of trees on the property.

  • Maple taffy on the snow

We always like to end our camps with a treat for the children. From marshmallows, fruit on the fire or in this case, taffy on the snow! We are in the process of writing a Wild Fauna recipe book so the children took it upon themselves to write out instructions on how they created taffy on the snow. It was a great success!

This is just a highlight of a few of the things that the group did over the March Break this year but the laughter, adventures and friendships that were made were endless. We hope to see you at the next camp or during one of our weekly programs.
